Conversion of ethane to ethanol:
First ethane undergoes substitution reaction in presence of sunlight, one of the hydrogen is replaced by Br atom and bromoethane is formed. Then bromoethane is treated with aqueous potassium hydroxide which replaces Br atom by -OH to give desired alcohol.
