● Ethanol to propanol -
Ethanol is converted to propanol in following steps -

# Step I -
Ethanol is first treated with KCN to form ethyl cyanide.
CH3CH2OH + KCN --> CH3CH2CN + KOH

Ethyl cyanide is then treated with water to form propanoic acid.
CH3CH2CN + 2H2O --> CH3CH2COOH + NH3

Propanoic acid gets reduced by LiAlH4 to form propanol.
CH3CH2COOH + 4[H] --> CH3CH2CH2OH + H2O
