Photolysis. This stage is also known as “water splitting” as light energy is used to split water into Hydrogen and Oxygen. ... The chemical energy converted by chlorophyll is not all used to split water molecules, some of this chemical energy is stored in the form of ATP.

Answer:

Emitted Electrons from Chlorophyll are channeled through electron transport chain in Chloroplast. The energy is absorbed by Chlorophyll is responsible for carrying out three functions :-

  • Formation of ATP.
  • Photolysis of Water.
  • Synthesis of NADPH.

Let Us Explain each of them One By One

Formation of ATP :-

For the formation of ATP (Adenosinetriphosphate), ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate) joins a phosphate group. This Formation of ATP and ADP during light phase is called Photophodphorylation.

The ATP this formed is used as a source of energy during dark phase of Photosynthesis.

Photolysis of Water :-

The decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen by light energy (absorbed by Chlorophyll) is called Photolysis of Water.

Water + Energy → Hydrogen + Oxygen

Oxygen is released into atomosphere as by-product of photosynthesis.

Synthesis of NADPH :----

NADPH :- REDUCED NICOTINAMIDE ADENINE DINUCLEOTIDE PHOSPHATE.

The released hydrogen ions from water are made available to NADP and reduces it to NADPH. It is also used in dark phase.
