for this we have to increase carbon number i.e. step up

so we can use wurtz reaction followed by reaction with cynide followed by hydrolysis then reduction of carboxylic acid.

CH3OH + PCl5 ----- CH3Cl +Na ------------ CH3CH3 + Cl2 ---------- CH3CH2Cl + CN --------------- CH3CH2CN + H2O ------------- CH3CH2COOH + NaBH4 ----------------- CH3CH2CH2OH
