• Conversion of starch to organic acid is required for the opening of stomata.

• According to Lloyd the stomatal movement is controlled by inter-change of starch and organic acids. When starch is changed into organic acid in the presence of enzymes and light, guard cells get turgid and ultimately cause the opening of stomata.
