Solution:

Step 1 : Reduction of triple bond in propyne to propene using catalytic reduction.

Step 2 : Treating propene with hydrogen bromide in the presence of peroxide(anti-markovnikov addition).

Step 3 : Bromo-propane is then treated with potassium cyanide to form cyano-propane.

Step 4 : On complete hydrolysis of cyano-propane, butanoic acid will be obtained.
