• Step1- 2 chlorobutane is treated with alcholic KOH to breakdown into but -1-ene, but-2-ene and n butane.

• Step 2- but-1-ene is treated with Nickel in the presence of Hydrogen atom to yield n butane.
• Step 3- n butane is now heated in the presence of sunlight to yield 1 chlorobutane.

• KOH containing alcohol is regarded as a strong base. Haloalkane is dehydrohalogenated using an alcohol solution.
• Alcohol facilitates elimination reactions by abstracting a proton from the carbon of an alkyl halide.
