A watt is energy consumed at the rate of one joule per second.
There are 3600 seconds in an hour. There are 1000W in a kW (the k means times 1000).
So:
kWh x 3600s/h x 1000 = J
A little algebra to reverse:
1 kWh = J/3,600,000
So divide the number of joules by 3.6x10^6 to get the number of kWh.
