To convert (a) Acetylene to Acetaldehyde:

Acetylene is treated with acidic medium in presence of Mercury to give 1-ethene-1-ol. This intermediate product undergoes tantomerism to form acetaldehyde. And the Acetylene can be converted into Acetaldehyde.

To convert (b) Phenol to Cyclohexane:

Phenol is treated with hydrogen gas in presence of Palladium to give Cyclohexanone. This intermediate product is further treated with hydrazine \bold{\left(\mathrm{NH}_{2}-\mathrm{NH}_{2}\right)} in presence of hydroxide ions to give Cyclohexane. And the Phenol can be converted into Cyclohexane.
