There is no pathway by which we can convert acetylene to 2-pentanone.

Conversion Process

• Acetylene to 2-pentanone we cannot get directly.
• We have to convert Acetylene to Ethanal by  using sodamide as the reagent.
• Then the Ethanal is treated with propyl magnesium bromide, followed by hydrolysis, we will get 2-Pentanol.
• This product is further oxidised to get 2-Pentanone.
• Thus if we go by the above process, like ethyne to ethanal then Ethanal to 2-Pentanol and on oxidation gives 2-Pentanone.
