1)reduction using lindlars catalyst(partially deactivated palladised carbon) or Birch's reagent(Na in liquid ammonia) to first convert acetylene to ethylene(ethene)


2)Hydrolysis in the presence of Dil. H2SO4 to covert it into ethanol(ethyl alcohol)

First reduce Ethyne to ethane by reacting it with H2 in presence of some catalyst like Pd or Pt or Ni then oxidised ethane to aldehyde i.e., ethanel by reacting it with Molybdenum oxide then react it with NaBH4 to form ethanol. Acetylene when hydrolyzed in the presence of acid ethyl alcohol result .
