Aniline can be converted to m-bromo nitrobenzene by the following steps:
- Firstly we treat aniline with HNO3 and H2SO4 to form p-nitro aniline.
- Then, p-nitro aniline is treated with HNO2 and HCl which forms the diazzonium salt on the amino group.
- Now, the diazzonium salt is treated with ethanol to form nitro benzene.
- Now, doing an electrophilic aromatic substitution of bromine on nitrobenzene yields m-bromo nitrobenzene.
