WHEN BENZENE IS TREATED WITH CHLORINE CHLOROBENZENE IS FORMED. AND ON TREATING THIS WITH MIXTURE OF NaOH AND H2O WE GET PHENOL.

1)When benzene undergoes chlorination in presence of sunlight, chloro benzene is formed.
2)Then the chloro benzene is treated with aqueous solution NaOH, OH replaces the chlorine in the benzene ring.
And thus phenol is formed....
