Answer:

Benzene reacts with conc.sulphuric acid and conc.nitric acid to give nitro benzene. This nitro benzene on bromination in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3 gives m-nitrobromobenzene. As nitro group is meta-directing it directs the bromo group to meta position.

Benzene can be converted into 3-bromonitrobenzene by following steps of reactions -

(i) React Benzene with concentrated sulphuric acid and concentrated nitric acid to form nitrobenzene .

(ii) React nitrobenzene with bromine (Br_{2})  in presence of FeBr_{3} for bromination . Nitro group is a meta directing group . So, the bromine is directed towards the meta position in  the ring .

(iii) And thus, 3-bromonitrobenzene formed by the reaction .
