Then CH3CN + CH3MgBr-> Propanone
Treating cyanide with grignard reagent gives ketone

# Step 1 -
Bromomethane is treated with magnesium in dry ether to get methyl magnesium bromide.
CH3Br + Mg --> CH3MgBr

Methyl magnesium bromide is treated with acetaldehyde/dil.H2SO4 to get propan-2-ol.
CH3MgBr + CH3CHO --> CH3-CH(OH)-CH3

Propan-2-ol on oxidation with KMnO4 gives propanone.
CH3-CH(OH)-CH3 + [O] --> CH3-CO-CH3 + H2O
