Butane on reaction with HBr gives 2-bromobutane.
CH3-CH2-CH2-CH3 + HBr --> CH3-CH2-CH(Br)-CH3

2-bromobutane on heating with NaOH gives butan-2-ol.
CH3-CH2-CH(Br)-CH3 + NaOH --> CH3-CH2-CH(OH)-CH3 + NaBr

Butan-2-ol on thermal dehydration gives but-2-ene.
CH3-CH2-CH(OH)-CH3 --> CH3-CH=CH-CH3
