Direct and Indirect:

  • When a question indirect speech is changed into reported speech, the verb becomes a past tense interrogative word.

  • The statement in reported speech will also contain the original question word. (where, what, how, when, why)

  • Eg: He said, " How long will you take, Sharanya?"

  • → He asked for long Sharanya would take.

  • When we report statements, we use reporting verbs such as said, told, answered , commanded , stated and mentioned, and the conjunction that to introduce the statement.
