We can convert ethane nitrile to ethane by doing its reaction first with diluted hydrochloric acid and then reacting with lithium aluminium hydride

These are the reactions:

• Reacting ethane nitrile with diluted hydrochloric acid in presence of heat following will happen.

CH3-CN + H2O + HCl → CH3COOH + NH4Cl

• Now from the above reaction of acetic acid with LiAlH4 in ether and acidic environment, it will form ethyl alcohol.

CH3COOH + LiAlH4  → CH3-CH2-OH

In this way, we can form ethyl alcohol from ethane nitrile.
