Solution:

'Six and a half metres' and 'three and three quarter metres'.

6 + 1/2   + 3 + 3/4

= 6 + 3 + 1/2 + 3/4

= 9  +  (2 + 3)/4

= 9 + 5/4

= (36 + 5)/4

= 41/4

= 10 1/4

= 10.25
