Indirect Speech :- He asked me whether I was quite well then.

Indirect Speech :- I asked him whether he had done the home-task.

Indirect Speech :- Bubli asked him whether he would accompany her to Agra the next day.

  • ✎ In case of an interrogative sentence, the reporting verb "said / said to" is changed to "asked" and the conjunction used is "if / whether" in Indirect Speech.

  • ✎ The time phrase "now" in Direct Speech is changed to "then" in Indirect Speech and "tomorrow" in Direct Speech is changed to "the next day / the following day" in Indirect Speech.

  • ➬ In Indirect Speech, the words of the speaker is expressed without speech marks and without necessarily using exactly the same words, keeping the meaning same.

  • ➬ Unlike Direct Speech, there is the need of using "that" or any necessary conjunction instead of the the Comma (,) in Indirect Speech.

  • ➬ There is also needed some grammatical changes while changing the speech from Direct speech to Indirect Speech.
