We use Celsius scale of temperature for measuring temperature in our daily life. So the common unit for measuring temperature (like melting point , boiling points) is degree Celsius which is written in short form as ° C.

The laboratory thermometer be used for performing science experiments are all calibrated in degree celsius.

There is another scale of temperature called Kelvin scale of temperature which is used by the scientist mainly for research work.The SI unit of measuring temperature is Kelvin which is denoted by the symbol K. The word degree or its sign is not written with the Kelvin scale temperature.

In kelvin scale of temperature all the temperatures on the scale are positive.

To convert a temperature in Celsius scale to the Kelvin scale we have to add 273 to the Celsius temperature.

And to convert temperature in kelvin scale to the Celsius scale we have to subtract 273 from the Kelvin temperature.

==================================================================

Solution:

a)
Temperature on Kelvin scale = temperature in Celsius scale + 273

300 = temperature on Celsius scale + 273

Temperature of Celsius scale = 300 - 273 = 27°C

Hence, a temperature of 300K on kelvin scale is equal to 27° C on Celsius scale.

b)

Temperature on Kelvin scale = temperature in Celsius scale + 273

573 = temperature on Celsius scale + 273

Temperature of Celsius scale = 573 - 273 = 300°C

Hence, a temperature of 573 K on kelvin scale is equal to 300° C on Celsius scale.
