Cookies by Douglas Adams is a story narrated by the author, described in a first person perspective where he talks about a detailed encounter with a stranger who had stolen the authors' cookies.

The author had arrived a bit earlier for his train. He was waiting for it at the station when he got himself a packet of cookies and sat at the coffee table. An ordinary man suited in business clothing, was standing in front of him. He clearly took the packet of cookies, tore it open and starting eating

It was odd for the author because he knew, had this gone down in Los Angelos, a hassle would have been created and both entities would end up on channels like CNN.

He ignored this action and went on. The man took another cookie and so did the author. One by one all eight cookies disappeared. Next thing you know, both men exchanged meaningful looks and the strange man walked away. The author finished his coffee and picked up a newspaper and saw that underneath the newspaper were his own cookies.

Astonishingly there was a man out there in England who too shared the same story as the author.

Answer:Here is a summary.

Douglas arrives early for a train, and buys a cup of coffee, a newspaper and a packet of cookies. He takes a seat at a table, opposite of a businessman. After a while, the guy leans forward grabs the packet of cookies, tears it open and eats one. In his story, Douglas explains how he – as an Englishman – is not at all able to cope with this situation, so he just takes a cookie himself. A minute later, the guy takes another cookie and so does Adams. This procedure repeats until the packet is empty. Finally, the guy leaves – they both exchange “meaningful looks”. When the train arrives, Adams gets up, takes his newspaper and discovers underneath it – his packet of cookies! Douglas ends the story by saying that
