Let the given point P(2,5) divide the line joining A(8,2) and B(-6,9) in the ratio

m:1

Formula used:-

\large\black\boxed{x = \frac{mx_2+nx_1}{m+n} }

m = ?

n = 1

x₁ = 8

x₂ = -6

x = 2

Substitute known values into the formula

2 = \frac{m\times-6+1\times8}{m+1} \\\\-6m+8=2m+2\\\\8m = 6\\\\m = \frac{6}{8} = \frac{3}{4}

So P divides AB in the ratio 3/4:1 OR 3:4
