beginning he tried to live in the remote village of Ulapur, he eventually resigned to go back to
Calcutta. He did try to cope in the beginning but then he had little company. Sometimes he
tried his hand at writing a verse or two. He had to cook his own meals which he shared with
Ratan, an orphan girl of the village, who did odd jobs forhim.
