It is the common observation of many of us that the copper wire and aluminum wires are used for the electrical transmissions.
The reasons for this are as follows :-
1) Copper wire is very cheap and also the aluminum wire too. Hence, the cost for using them is quite very low.
Gold and silver are considered to be as the best conductor of electricity but due to their very high cost they are not used in homes as transmission wires. A very small length of these wires can even cost thousands.
Instead of them we use copper and aluminum wires as they are very cheap as compared to other conducting wires.
2) Good conductors of electricity. Both aluminum and copper are good conductor of electricity. Hence, for conduction of electricity they are used in homes.
3) Both copper and aluminum offer quite less resistance. Hence, amount of waste electricity is less when current flows through the copper and aluminum wires.
These are the reasons why we use copper and aluminum as conducting wires.
Moreover, these metals are highly ductile and malleable.
The ductility of these metals allows us to draw long wires from even a very small amount of metal.
Thanks!!
