Copper can be coated on the surface of iron but not in silver,justify with reason.

Okay that was a retarded title, but I did a chemistry experiment at school which involves the electrolysis of substances in solutions. One we did was the electrolysis of an iron nail in a CuSO4 solution, and we observed copper forming on the surface of the iron nail, which can be filed off. We also tried doing the same experiment without the battery, and we got the same result.
