copper carbonate on heating removes oxygen as gas....and.....Removal of 1 mole of oxygen gives copper oxide and Removal of 2 mole of oxygen gives copper dioxide....

Copper carbonate on heating in absence of air breaks down into copper oxide and carbon dioxide. The reason is the instability of compound as bigger anion can't stabilize the smaller cation.
