Copper crystallises into a fcc lattice with edge length 3.61 x 10⁻⁸ cm. Show that the calculated density is in agreement with its measured value of 8.92 g cm⁻³

For FCC lattice,

d = Z.M / a^3.NA

Substitute values,

d = (4 × 63.5) / [(3.61×10^-8)^3 × 6.022×10^23]

d = 254 / 28.33

d = 8.96 g/cm^3

From this, it's evident that calculated value of density (8.96 g/cm^3) is approximately equal to given value (8.92 g/cm^3).
