Copper does not dissolve in hcl while it does dissolve inhno3

Nitric acid reacts with copper because of the nitrate ion. It is the nitrate ion that causes the copper to dissolve, not the Hydrogen . There is no reaction between copper and Hydrochloric Acid because neither Hydrogen nor Chlorine is able to react with the metal.
