The oxidation number of copper in [Cu(CN)4]^3- is +1.

The ion has a total charge of -3 and according to complex one copper ion is surrounded by 4 cyanide ions and cyanide are ligends that is they donate electrons to the central metal atom.

The charge on cyanide ion as it act as ligend is -1 as there are four cyanide ligend so total charge is -1*4 = -4.

Let the oxidation state of copper in ligend is x.

The charge on complete complex is -3 so sum total of anionic and cationic charge should be equal to-3.

So we have,

x + (-4) = -3

x = -3 + 4 so x = +1.

Hence oxidation state of copper in the complex is +1.
