ANSWER:-

Copper is a metal whereas nichrome is an alloy.Resistivity of an alloy is greater than the resistivity of a metal.Hence,the resistance of nichrome is greater than that of copper.

We have,

✦H ∝ R

Where,

H = heat generated

R = resistance

↬Which means,more is the resistance , more is the heat generated.

↬This is why nichrome produces more heat than that of copper and hence,copper wire used in household circuits does not get hot but nichrome wire does.

✦ Nichrome wire is an alloy made from nickel and chromium. It shows high resistance & hence served as a heating element in products like such as hair dryers ,toasters and also used in glassmaking & ceramic sculputure.

✦ Copper serves as electrical conductor.It is used in various kinds of electrical wiring.It is also used in generating power,transmission of power ,circuitry,telecommunications etc.
