Yes i agree that COPRA 1986 empowers consumers in every possible ways since :
1. It provides RIGHT TO SAFETY : consumers have the right to be protected against the marketing of goods and delivery of services that are hazardous to life and property.
2. RIGHT TO BE INFORMED : consumers have the right to have all the information about the product like : date of expiry , manufacturing , batch number etc.
3. RIGHT TO CHOOSE : the consumers have the right to choose whatever they want to buy .
for eg : you went to a shop to buy a notebook but the seller told that you have to buy a pen to buy a notebook , as without u buying a pen the seller would not give u a book. Earlier , under these conditions the consumers either had to buy both the commodities or services or change their shop but after COPRA , the consumer has the right to choose to buy only notebook or any other commodity he / she wants .
4. RIGHT TO SEEK REDRESSAL : consumers can also file report against the unfair trade practices and exploitation . If any damage is done , the consumer can also ask for compensation .
5. RIGHT TO REPRESENT : the consumer has the right to represent him/her self in the court .This includes quasi - judicial mechanism under which district , state , national lvl courts handle cases.
DISTRICT UPTO 20 LAKHS
STATE BETWEEN 20LAKH - 1 CRORE
NATIONAL MORE THAN 1 CRORE .
COPRA also gives us the RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT ( 2005 oct. ) under which the citizens have the right to know about all the information of functions of government departments .
hope this helps u !
