Acid is something which furnishes hydrogen ions when mixed in water .Though carbon dioxide doesn't contain hydrogen,it reacts with water who has hydrogen and releases it. A substance cannot be called as an acid until it gives hydrogen ions WHEN MIXED IN WATER.
