Corporal turnbull attempted to transform Quelch was futile. This was evident from the last paragraph wherein Quelch was lecturing his fellow cooks about the wrong way of peeling of potatoes and yet again proving his knowledge in front of everyone. Thus, this attempt wasn't really helpful.

corporal turnbull was taking lecture about hand grenades and it's segments , turnbull didn't mention the correct number of segments a hand grenade have . that time private quelch interrupted and said the correct number of segments a hand grenade have in it . he got angry and tossed the grenade to private quelch . the first impression on private quelch was a bad impression by corporal turnbull . then for making private quelch to regret his mistake he put him in cooking house duties . in that place also he took lecture in the way of peeling potatoes and if we don't peel it properly there will be vitamin loss . In that stage also he didn't regret his mistake
