identities used =

(a+b)^2 = a^2 +b^2+2ab

a^3+b^3 = (a+b) (a^2+b^2-ab)

5 was the only integral value of y.

x³ + 1/x³ = 110

(x + 1/x)³ - 3(x + 1/x) = 110

x + 1/x = k

let

x³ + 1/x³ = 110(x + 1/x)³ - 3(x + 1/x) = 110

x + 1/x = k

let

k³ - 3k - 110 = 0

k(k² - 3) = 110

k(k² - 3) = 5(5² - 3)

so k = 5 ANSWER
