Turgid cell in water potential

Explanation:

  • Water moves by osmosis from an area of high water potential to low water potential. Water potential can be considered as the measure of the tendency of water to move from one region to another with respect to solute concentration and pressure potential. In a plant cell, when the water potential outside the cell is higher than the water potential inside the cell, water moves into the cell, which results in turgor pressure
  • When a cell is totally turgid, its walls and membranes area unit utterly stretched. At this point force per unit area of the cell is going to be up to state pressure and then water potential becomes zero. When DPD is zero, the entry of water will stop. Thus it is DPD that tends equate and represents water absorbing ability of the cell, it is also called suction pressure.
