correct the sentence {i was living in pune when i was a child}

"i was living in pune when u was a child."

but the correct sentence is
"i lived in pune when i was a child."

because we use 'was' in past but 'living' in present. "i am living in pune." its is used for now.& i was living is a meaningless sentence.
thats why the correct ans is "i lived in pune when i was child."
