aluminium because the corroded aluminium develops a layer of aluminium oxide which is protective.

Corrosion of ALUMINIUM metal is not proved to be wasteful.
This is because the surface of aluminium when corroded forms a thin layer of aluminium oxide (alumina).
This oxide layer prevents the metal from further corrosion.
Thats why a thick layer of alumina is sprayed over the aluminium tp increase its resistance to corrosion.
