Corruption creats difficulties among many families and commrnities working with save A family plan as I discovered during my stay in india last year. In one fishing village in tamil nadu near the city of tuticorin we met by several families headed by widows who had lost there husbands at sea.
Althrough all widows living below the poverty line are entited to a small widow montly pension through the indian goverment, only one of the woman we met with was receving it. We learned that all of them were turned away by the local goverment official, except the one who is able to pay a bride of Rs 40,000 ($100) to have him except her application.
The conditions that all of this families lived were appalling and as someone from outside, I found it shocking that needless barrier could stand in the way of them receiving the assitance the needed so desperately.
The problem of correption is a majour problem of india's development and achiving justice for poor.With 45 years of experince working in india , save a fimily plan understands the seriousness of this problems and designs programs that work to challenge correption at a grassroot level.
