if cos x = cos y

x = 2nπ ± y

cos 4x = cos 2x

Therefore

4x = 2nπ ± 2x

If we take +

4x =  2nπ + 2x

= 2x =  2nπ

= x =  nπ

If we take -

4x =  2nπ - 2x

= 6x = 2nπ

x =  2nπ/6  = nπ/3

Therefore General Solution =

x =  nπ or x =  nπ/3
