Your question needs a little correction, ie, RHS = 2 and not 1.

LHS

= (cosθ - sinθ)² + (cosθ + sinθ)²

= cos²θ + sin²θ - 2cosθsinθ + cos²θ + sin²θ + 2cosθsinθ

We know that sin²θ + cos²θ = 1

So, LHS

= 1 + 1 + 0

= 2

= RHS

Hence, proved.
