if cos x = -1/2

then...

Yes... "x" will definately lie in the 3rd quadrant ...

because...

Cos x = -1/2

-Cos x = 1/2

and we know that...

cos (π + x ) = - cos x ......[ FORMULA]

so,

-cos x = cos (π + x)

and we know π+ means.. 180+ quadrant is the third quadrent...

Thus,

'x' lies in 3rd quadrent...
