Hi !

cos² x - sin²x / sin²x + cos²x

We know that ,

 sin²x + cos²x = 1

so,
cos²x - sin²x /1

we can write ,

sin²x = 1 - cos²x

hence,

cos²x - ( 1 - cos²x)

2 cos²x - 1

Hope this helps you !
