SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The value of

cos 44° × cos 16° - sin 44° × sin 16°

FORMULA TO BE IMPLEMENTED

We are aware of the Trigonometric formula that

cos ( x + y ) = cos x cos y - sin x sin y

EVALUATION

We know that

cos ( x + y ) = cos x cos y - sin x sin y

Taking x = 44° & y = 16° we get

cos 44° × cos 16° - sin 44° × sin 16°

= cos ( 44° + 16° )

= cos 60°

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{1}{2} }
