Cost of 10 pens = ₹ 180

Cost of 1 pen = ₹ 180/10 = ₹ 18

Cost of 7 pencils = ₹ 560

Cost of 1 pencil = ₹ 560/7 = ₹ 80

Hence, ratio of a pen to the cost of a pencil

18 : 80

 =  \frac{18}{80}

  = \frac{9}{40}

 = 9 : 40

Solution :

Cost of 10 pens = Rs. 180

Cost of 7 pencils = Rs. 560

.

Then,

cost of 1 pen = 180/10

= Rs. 18

And cost of 1 pencil = 560/7

= Rs. 80

.

Now,

Ratio = Cost of 1 pen/Cost of one pencil

= 18/80

= 9/40

.

So, the ratio of a pen to the cost of a pencil = 9:40
