Step-by-step explanation:

let the cost of one pen be x and one book be y.

A/Q

2x+3y = 18.....(i)

3x+4y = 12.....(ii)

multiplying equation (i) by 3 and (ii) by 2

(2x+3y=18)×3

(3x+4y=12)×2

6x + 9y = 54. (iii)

6x + 8y = 24. (iv)

subtracting equation (iii) and (iv)

6x + 9y = 54

6x + 8y = 24

_-__-____-__

y = 30

putting the value of y in equation i

2x+3y = 18

2x + 3×30 = 18

2x = 18-90

2x = -72

X = -36

hence, the cost of each pen = x = -36/-

and the cost of each book = y = 30/-
