Cost of dozen bananas is rupees 15 and cost of 8 oranges is rupees 40 . Find the ratio of cost of one banana to cost of one orange.

cost \: of \: 12 \: bananas = 15 \\ cost \: of \: 1 \: banana \:  \:  \:   \: =  \frac{15}{12}  =  \frac{5}{4}

cost \: of \: 8 \: oranges = 40 \\ cost \: of \: 1 \: orange  \: \:  =  \frac{40}{8}  = 5

so,

ratio=

 \frac{ \frac{5}{4} }{5}  =  \frac{5}{4}   \times  \frac{1}{5}  =  \frac{1}{4}

so the required ratio is 1:4
