Answer:

cost \: of \: pen = 16 \frac{2}{3}  =  \frac{50}{3}

cost \: of \:pencil =    4\frac{1}{6}  =  \frac{25}{6}

 \: lc m \: of \: 3 \: and \: 6 = 3 \times 2 = 6

 \frac{50 \times2}{3 \times2 } =  \frac{100}{6 \: }   \: and \:  \frac{25 \times 1}{6 \times 1}  =  \frac{25}{6}

Both fraction having same denominator :

Clearly,100 is greater than 25.

so \:  16\frac{2}{3}   \: is \: greater \: than   \: 4\frac{1}{6}  means\: cost\\ \: of \:pen\: is \:greater \:than\: cost\: of\: pencil \\ \: by \:  \frac{50}{3}  -  \frac{25}{6} \\  \:  \:   =  \frac{100 - 25}{6}   \\  \:  \:  =  \frac{75}{6}  \\  \:  \:  =  \frac{25}{3}  \\  \:  \:  =  8\frac{1}{3}
