"Discount given by the shopkeeper is 10%.

Given:

CP = 3000

SP = 4000

Gain = 20%

To find:

Discount %

Solution:

Profit % = 20%

CP = 3000

Discount = ?

20%\quad =\quad \left( \frac { profit }{ CP } \quad \times \quad 100 \right) %\frac { 20\quad \times \quad 3000 }{ 100 } \quad = profit

Profit = 20 \times 30 = 600

SP = Profit + Cost price

SP = 3000 + 600 = 3600

MRP = 4000

Discount = MRP - Selling price

Discount = 4000 - 3600 = 400

Discount percentage\quad =\quad \frac { Discount }{ List\quad Price } \quad \times \quad 100

Discount% = 10%"
