Let Discount he allowed to customer be ' x ' %

CP = 3000

Market price = 4000

Discount = x % of market price

= x % of 4000

= 4000x /100 = 40 x

SP = 4000 - 40 x ....(1)

Owners profit = 20 % of 3000
= 20 * 3000 /100= 600

It means he sold at , SP = CP + profit

SP = 3000 + 600 = 3600 ....(2)

From (1) and (2)

4000 - 40x =3600

400 = 40 x

x= 10 %
